حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، جَاءَتْ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ طَلَّقَهَا زَوْجُهَا، فَأَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَأْخُذَ وَلَدَهَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اسْتَهِمَا فِيهِ "، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ: مَنْ يَحُولُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ ابْنِي؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِلِابْنِ: " اخْتَرْ أَيَّهُمَا شِئْتَ "، فَاخْتَارَ أُمَّهُ، فَذَهَبَتْ بِهِ (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was approached by a woman whose husband had divorced her. She wanted to take her child. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Draw lots." The child's father said, "Who can come between me and my child?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) gave the boy the choice and said, "O boy, choose whichever of them you wish to go with." He preferred his mother, and she took him with her.
