حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ شُبَيْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: مَرَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأُنَاسٍ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ قَدْ صَامُوا يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ، فَقَالَ: " مَا هَذَا مِنَ الصَّوْمِ؟ " قَالُوا: هَذَا الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي نَجَّى اللهُ مُوسَى وَبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنَ الْغَرَقِ، وَغَرَّقَ فِيهِ فِرْعَوْنَ، وَهَذَا يَوْمُ اسْتَوَتْ فِيهِ السَّفِينَةُ عَلَى الْجُودِيِّ، فَصَامَ نُوحٌ وَمُوسَى شُكْرًا لِلَّهِ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَنَا أَحَقُّ بِمُوسَى، وَأَحَقُّ بِصَوْمِ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ "، فَأَمَرَ أَصْحَابَهُ بِالصَّوْمِ (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) passed by some Jews who were observing the fast of Ashura. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) asked them, "What is this fast?" They replied, "On this day, Allah saved Musa (peace be upon him) and the Children of Israel from drowning and drowned Pharaoh. On this same day, the ark of Nuh (peace be upon him) came to rest on Mount Judi. So Nuh and Musa (peace be upon them) fasted on this day to thank Allah." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I have more right to Musa than you, and I am more deserving of fasting on this day." Thus, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) instructed his companions to fast on this day.
