Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ النَّضْرِ يَعْنِي، ، ابْنَ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ بَشِيرِ بْنِ نَهِيكٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " أُرْسِلَ عَلَى أَيُّوبَ جَرَادٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، فَجَعَلَ يَلْتَقِطُهُ (١) ، فَقَالَ: أَلَمْ أُغْنِكَ يَا أَيُّوبُ؟ قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ، وَمَنْ يَشْبَعُ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ أَوْ - قَالَ: - مِنْ فَضْلِكَ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Once Allah Almighty showered golden locusts upon Ayub (peace be upon him). Ayub (peace be upon him) began to gather them in his garment. Meanwhile, a voice came: "O Ayub! Have We not given you enough of what is sufficient for you?" He replied: "O Lord, who can remain independent of Your grace or mercy?"
