Musnad Ahmad Hadith 7960

Abu Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that I had the honor of sitting with Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) for five years. I heard him narrate this hadith of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ): Among the Children of Israel, the affairs of the state used to be managed by the Prophets (peace be upon them). When one Prophet passed away, another Prophet would succeed him. But after me, since there will be no Prophet, there will be caliphs in this Ummah and they will be many. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "Then what do you command us?" The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Fulfill the pledge of allegiance to each one according to his turn, and give them the right that Allah has prescribed for them, for Allah Himself will question them regarding their subjects."
