حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَظَرَ إِلَى أَعْرَابِيٍّ قَائِمًا فِي الشَّمْسِ، وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ، فَقَالَ: " مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ " قَالَ: نَذَرْتُ (١) يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَنْ لَا أَزَالَ فِي الشَّمْسِ حَتَّى تَفْرُغَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَيْسَ هَذَا نَذْرًا، إِنَّمَا النَّذْرُ مَا ابْتُغِيَ بِهِ وَجْهُ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) saw a Bedouin standing in the sun while the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering a sermon. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked him, "What is your situation?" He replied, "O Messenger of Allah! I have made a vow that I will remain standing in the sun like this until your sermon ends." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "This is not a vow. A vow is that by which Allah’s pleasure is sought."
