حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ، قَالَ: كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ رَبَاحٍ، يُحَدِّثُ، ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، قَالَ: هَجَّرْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا، فَإِنَّا لَجُلُوسٌ إِذِ (١) اخْتَلَفَ رَجُلَانِ فِي آيَةٍ، فَارْتَفَعَتْ أَصْوَاتُهُمَا، فَقَالَ: " إِنَّمَا هَلَكَتِ الْأُمَمُ قَبْلَكُمْ بِاخْتِلَافِهِمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that one day I presented myself before the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, at noon. While we were sitting, two men began to differ over the interpretation of a verse, and as the dispute escalated, their voices grew louder. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The previous nations were destroyed because of their differences regarding their Book."
