Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَامِرٌ الْأَحْوَلُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَا نَذْرَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ، وَلَا عِتْقَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ، وَلَا طَلَاقَ لَهُ فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ، وَلَا يَمِينَ فِيمَا لَا يَمْلِكُ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A person does not have the right to divorce a woman whom he does not own (through marriage or purchase), nor does a person have the authority to free someone who is not his slave, nor does he have the right to make a vow regarding something he does not own, nor is an oath regarding something not owned by him considered valid."
