Abu Umamah Taymi, may Allah have mercy on him, says: I asked Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that we people buy and sell things on hire—will our Hajj be valid? He replied: "Do you not perform Tawaf of the House of Allah? Do you not go to the plain of Arafat? Do you not perform the stoning of the Jamarat and shaving of the head?" We said, "Why not?" Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: "A man came to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and asked him the same question you have asked me. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not answer him until Jibreel (peace be upon him) descended and said that there is no harm for you in seeking the bounty of your Lord. The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then called him and replied that you are a pilgrim (Haji)."
