English translation

It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) sent Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), probably towards the Banu Jadhimah. When he reached there, he invited the people to Islam. They could not clearly say that they had accepted Islam, but they began to say, "We have changed our religion" (the word "Saba'na" means to become irreligious). Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) began to take them captive and to kill them, and each of us was given a captive. When morning came, Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered that each person among us should kill his captive. I said, "I will not kill my captive, nor will any of my companions do so." On the return, people mentioned Khalid's (may Allah be pleased with him) action to the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). Upon hearing this, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands and said twice: "O Allah, I am free from what Khalid has done."
