حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنِي الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْقُرَشِيِّ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَهُمْ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ (٢) : " إِنَّا أُمَّةٌ أُمِّيَّةٌ لَا نَكْتُبُ وَلَا نَحْسُبُ، وَإِنَّ الشَّهْرَ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا "، ثُمَّ نَقَصَ وَاحِدَةً فِي الثَّالِثَةِ (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: We are an unlettered nation; we do not know calculation. Sometimes the month is like this, like this, and like this. The third time, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, folded his thumb.
