حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ، حَدَّثَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمٌ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللهِ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، " أَنَّهُ لَقِيَ زَيْدَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ بِأَسْفَلِ بَلْدَحَ، وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْوَحْيُ، فَقَدَّمَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُفْرَةً فِيهَا لَحْمٌ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْهَا، وَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَا آكُلُ مِمَّا تَذْبَحُونَ عَلَى أَنْصَابِكُمْ، وَلَا آكُلُ إِلَّا مِمَّا ذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ " وَحَدَّثَ هَذَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ (٣)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once, before the beginning of the period of revelation in the low-lying area of Makkah Mukarramah, the Prophet (ﷺ) met Zayd bin Amr bin Nufayl. The Prophet (ﷺ) spread a dining mat before him and brought meat and placed it in front of him. He refused to eat it and said, "I do not eat the meat of those animals which you people sacrifice in the name of your idols. Rather, I only eat those things upon which Allah's name has been mentioned." Benefit: By "you people" is meant "the nation" and not the person of the Prophet (ﷺ).
