حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى، حَدَّثَنِي لَيْثٌ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ (١) عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ: إِنَّا نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ الْحَضَرِ، وَصَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ، وَلَا نَجِدُ صَلَاةَ السَّفَرِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ: " ابْنَ أَخِي، إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بَعَثَ إِلَيْنَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا نَعْلَمُ شَيْئًا، فَإِنَّمَا نَفْعَلُ كَمَا رَأَيْنَا مُحَمَّدًا يَفْعَلُ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
Umayyah bin Abdullah asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that in the Noble Qur'an we find mention of the prayer of fear and the prayer of residence, but we do not find mention of the prayer of travel (even then, why is the prayer shortened during travel?) He replied, "Nephew! When Allah Almighty sent the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we knew nothing. We will only do as we saw him doing."
