حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: " كُنَّا نَتَّقِي كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْكَلَامِ وَالِانْبِسَاطِ إِلَى نِسَائِنَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ فِينَا الْقُرْآنُ، فَلَمَّا مَاتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَكَلَّمْنَا " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that during the blessed era of the Prophet (ﷺ), we used to refrain from excessive conversation and complete informality with our wives, fearing that some rulings might be revealed in the Qur'an concerning us. When the Prophet (ﷺ) passed away, then we spoke.
