Translation

English translation

Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once, a sudden piece of news regarding Lady Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) reached Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), so he set out and in one night covered the distance usually traveled in three nights. He continued traveling until evening. I mentioned the prayer to him, but he paid no attention and kept going, until darkness began to fall. Then Salim or another man said to him, “It is very late in the evening, please perform the prayer.” He replied, “When the Prophet (ﷺ) was in a hurry while traveling, he would combine these two prayers, and I also intend to combine these two, so keep moving.” So they continued traveling until the twilight disappeared, then he dismounted and performed both prayers together.
