حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، عَنْ يَحْيَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: رَأَى عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ فِي سُوقٍ ثَوْبًا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، (٣) لَوِ ابْتَعْتَ هَذَا الثَّوْبَ لِلْوَفْدِ قَالَ: " إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ الْحَرِيرَ أَوْ قَالَ: هَذَا مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ "، قَالَ: أَحْسِبُهُ، قَالَ: " فِي الْآخِرَةِ ". قَالَ: فَلَمَّا كَانَ بَعْدَ ذَاكَ أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِثَوْبٍ مِنْهَا، فَبَعَثَ بِهِ إِلَى عُمَرَ فَكَرِهَهُ، فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، بَعَثْتَ بِهِ إِلَيَّ وَقَدْ قُلْتَ فِيهِ مَا سَمِعْتُ: " إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ الْحَرِيرَ أَوْ قَالَ هَذَا مَنْ لَا خَلَاقَ لَهُ " قَالَ: " إِنِّي، ، لَمْ أَبْعَثْ بِهِ إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهُ، وَلَكِنْ بَعَثْتُ بِهِ إِلَيْكَ لِتُصِيبَ بِهِ ثَمَنًا " قَالَ سَالِمٌ: فَمِنْ أَجْلِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ يَكْرَهُ الْعَلَمَ فِي الثَّوْبِ (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a silk garment being sold, so he said to the Prophet (ﷺ), "If you were to buy it, you could wear it on Fridays or when delegations come to you." The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "This is worn by the one who has no share in the Hereafter." A few days later, some silk garments came to the Prophet (ﷺ) from somewhere, and the Prophet (ﷺ) sent one of those garments to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "You yourself said what I heard about this, and now you have sent me this silk garment?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "I have sent it to you so that you may sell it and use its price for your own needs."
