حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: سُئِلَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ فَقَالَ: " حَجَجْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ "، وَحَجَجْتُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ، وَحَجَجْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ، وَحَجَجْتُ مَعَ عُثْمَانَ فَلَمْ يَصُمْهُ، وَأَنَا لَا أَصُومُهُ وَلَا آمُرُ بِهِ (١) وَلَا أَنْهَى عَنْهُ، وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً عَمَّنْ سَأَلَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
Abu Najih says that once someone asked Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about fasting on the day of Arafah. He replied: I performed Hajj with the Prophet (ﷺ), but he did not fast on that day. I performed Hajj with Abu Bakr, Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), but they also did not fast on that day. I neither fast on that day nor do I command it nor prohibit it.
