Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُقْبَةُ، سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، فَإِنْ خَشِيتَ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرْ بِرَكْعَةٍ " قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَا مَثْنَى مَثْنَى؟ قَالَ: " رَكْعَتَانِ رَكْعَتَانِ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The night prayer is offered in sets of two rak‘ahs. When the time of dawn approaches, then add one rak‘ah to them and perform Witr."
