Original Arabic
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ إِذَا سَلَّمُوا فَإِنَّمَا تَقُولُ (٢) : السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ فَقُلْ: عَلَيْكَ (٣) " (٤)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said: "When a Jew greets you with Salam, he says «السام عليك», so in reply you should only say 'Alaik'."
