حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَبِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: سُئِلَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ، فَقَالَ: " مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، فَإِذَا خِفْتَ الصُّبْحَ فَأَوْتِرْ بِوَاحِدَةٍ " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once a man asked the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) about the night prayer. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "You should pray the night prayer in pairs of two rak‘ahs, and when you fear that morning is near, then add one rak‘ah as witr to those two."
