Translation
English translation
It is narrated that once, on a Friday, people had gathered in the central mosque of Kufa. At that time, ‘Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) was the governor of Kufa on behalf of ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and ‘Abdullah bin Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was the treasurer. Ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) saw the shadow and it had reached the length of a strap. He said, “If your companion (the governor) wants to act upon the Sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ), he will come out now.” By Allah! Ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) had not even finished his statement when ‘Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) came out saying, “Prayer, prayer!”
