حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنِي مُعَاذَةُ، قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ، تَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " فَنَاءُ أُمَّتِي بِالطَّعْنِ،، ، وَالطَّاعُونِ " قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَذَا الطَّعْنُ قَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ، فَمَا الطَّاعُونُ؟ قَالَ: " غُدَّةٌ كَغُدَّةِ الْإِبِلِ، الْمُقِيمُ فِيهَا كَالشَّهِيدِ، وَالْفَارُّ مِنْهَا كَالْفَارِّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
Mu’adhah ‘Adawiyyah says that once I was present in the service of ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), so she said that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “My ummah will only be destroyed by spear fighting and plague.” I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! We understand the meaning of spear fighting, but what is meant by plague?” The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “It is a swelling that resembles the swelling of a camel. Whoever remains steadfast in it will be like a martyr, and whoever flees from it will be like one who flees from the battlefield.”
