حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ زَعَمَ عَطَاءٌ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ يُخْبِرُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تُخْبِرُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَمْكُثُ عِنْدَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ وَيَشْرَبُ عِنْدَهَا عَسَلًا، فَتَوَاطَيْتُ أَنَا وَحَفْصَةُ أَنَّ أَيَّتَنَا مَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلْتَقُلْ إِنِّي أَجِدُ مِنْكَ رِيحَ مَغَافِيرَ، أَكَلْتَ مَغَافِيرَ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَى إِحْدَاهُمَا، فَقَالَتْ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، فَقَالَ: " بَلْ شَرِبْتُ عَسَلًا عِنْدَ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ، وَلَنْ أَعُودَ لَهُ، فَنَزَلَتْ {لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا أَحَلَّ اللهُ لَكَ} [التحريم: ١] {إِنْ تَتُوبَا} [التحريم: ٤] لِعَائِشَةَ وَحَفْصَةَ {وَإِذْ أَسَرَّ النَّبِيُّ إِلَى بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِهِ} [التحريم: ٣] لِقَوْلِهِ: بَلْ شَرِبْتُ عَسَلًا " (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (ﷺ) would sometimes stay with Zainab bint Jahsh and drink honey at her place. I and Hafsa made an agreement that whichever of us the Prophet (ﷺ) came to, she would say, "I find the smell of maghafir from you; have you eaten maghafir?" So when the Prophet (ﷺ) went to one of them, she said this. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "I drank honey at Zainab's place and I will never drink it again." Upon this, the verse was revealed: "Why do you make unlawful for yourself that which Allah has made lawful for you...?" If you two (Aisha and Hafsa) repent...
