Musnad Ahmad Hadith 25540

Abis bin Rabi’ah says that we asked Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), “Did the Prophet (ﷺ) declare it forbidden to eat the meat of sacrifice after three days?” She replied, “No, but at that time very few sacrifices were made. The Prophet (ﷺ) gave this instruction so that those who performed the sacrifice would give meat to those who could not sacrifice, so they too could eat. And we saw a time when we would preserve the legs of our sacrificial animal and eat them after ten days.” I asked, “Why did you need to do that?” She laughed and replied, “The family of the Prophet (ﷺ) never filled their stomachs with bread and curry for three consecutive days, until he met Allah.”
