English translation

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that Bareerah was a "mukatabah" (contracted slave) of some people from the Ansar. I intended to buy her and said to her, "Go to your owners and tell them that I want to buy you and set you free." They said, "If you promise to give us her wala (right of inheritance/loyalty), we will sell her to you." I asked the Prophet (ﷺ) about this, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Buy her and set her free, for wala is for the one who sets the slave free." Once, the Prophet (ﷺ) came to my house and there was meat boiling in a pot. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Where did this come from?" I replied, "Bareerah gave it to us as a gift, and it was given to her as charity." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It is charity for Bareerah and a gift for us." She (Aisha) says that Bareerah was married to a slave. When she was freed, the Prophet (ﷺ) gave her the choice, saying, "If you wish, remain in the marriage with the slave, and if you wish, separate."
