Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) was sitting in such a way that I was sitting with him under a single sheet. In the meantime, Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) granted him permission and remained in the same state. Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) granted him permission and remained in the same state. Then Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) covered himself with the cloth. When they had left, I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Bakr and Umar sought permission from you, and you granted them permission and remained in the same state, but when Uthman sought permission, you covered yourself with the cloth?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Uthman is a very modest man. If I had permitted him to enter in that state, I feared that he would not have been able to express his need (for which he had come)."
