Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Aisha that she wanted to buy Barirah from some people of the Ansar, but they set the condition of "wala" (right of inheritance). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Buy her and set her free, because the inheritance of a slave belongs to the one who sets him free." When she was freed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave her the choice to either remain in the marriage or not, and she chose for herself (ended her marriage with her husband). Her husband was a slave. Also, people used to give her something as charity, and she would give us some of it as a gift. I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he said, "It is charity for her, and for us it is a gift."
