Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Aisha that the wife of Uthman bin Maz'un used to apply henna and smell of fragrance, but suddenly she abandoned all these things. One day she came to me, so I asked her, "Is your husband present or has he gone somewhere?" She said, "His being present is like his being absent." I asked, "What do you mean?" She said, "Uthman has no desire for the world or for women." After a little while, the Prophet (peace be upon him) came to me, so I mentioned this matter to him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) met her and said, "O Uthman! Do you believe in the things in which we believe?" He replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then why do you not follow our example?"
