Musnad Ahmad Hadith 24707

Abis bin Rabi’ah says that I asked Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), “Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) declare it forbidden to eat the meat of sacrifice after three days?” She replied, “No, but at that time very few sacrifices were made. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave this instruction so that those who performed the sacrifice would also give meat to those who could not perform the sacrifice. And we have seen the time when we used to preserve the legs of our sacrificial animal and eat them after ten days.”
