حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الضُّحَى، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: " لَمَّا أُنْزِلَتِ الْآيَاتُ الْأَوَاخِرُ مِنْ سُورَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ، خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَرَأَهُنَّ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَحَرَّمَ التِّجَارَةَ فِي الْخَمْرِ " (١)،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Aisha that when the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah "which are related to usury" were revealed, the Prophet (peace be upon him) proceeded towards the mosque, recited them, and also declared the trade of alcohol to be forbidden.
