حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى، أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَهُ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، حَدِّثِينِي عَنْ خُلُقِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ: " أَلَسْتَ تَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ؟ " قَالَ: قُلْتُ: بَلَى، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ، قَالَتْ: " وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، إِذَا صَلَّى صَلَاةً دَاوَمَ عَلَيْهَا، وَكَانَ إِذَا فَاتَهُ الْقِيَامُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، غَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنَاهُ بِنَوْمٍ، أَوْ وَجَعٍ، صَلَّى اثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً مِنَ النَّهَارِ "، قَالَتْ: " وَلَمْ يَقُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةً يُتِمُّهَا حَتَّى الصَّبَاحِ، وَلَمْ يَقْرَأِ الْقُرْآنَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ يُتِمُّهُ، وَلَمْ يَصُمْ شَهْرًا يُتِمُّهُ غَيْرَ رَمَضَانَ حَتَّى مَاتَ " (١)،
Translation
English translation
Sa’d bin Hisham says that once I asked Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), “O Mother of the Believers! Tell me about the character of the Prophet (ﷺ).” She replied, “Do you not read the Qur’an?” I said, “Why not...” Then she mentioned the entire hadith and Aisha said that whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) started any prayer, he would always recite it, and if on any day the Prophet (ﷺ) missed the Tahajjud prayer due to sleep overpowering him or due to illness, then the Prophet (ﷺ) would offer twelve rak’ahs during the day. And the Prophet (ﷺ) would not stand in prayer the whole night until morning, nor would he recite the entire Qur’an in one night, and except for Ramadan, he did not fast the entire month of any other month until he departed from this world.
