حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبَدُ اللهِ (١) بْنُ سَيَّارٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ بِنْتَ طَلْحَةَ، تَذْكُرُ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ جَالِسًا كَاشِفًا عَنْ فَخِذِهِ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى حَالِهِ، ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عُمَرُ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى حَالِهِ، ثُمَّ اسْتَأْذَنَ عُثْمَانُ، فَأَرْخَى عَلَيْهِ ثِيَابَهُ، فَلَمَّا قَامُوا، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اسْتَأْذَنَ عَلَيْكَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ فَأَذِنْتَ لَهُمَا، وَأَنْتَ عَلَى حَالِكَ، فَلَمَّا اسْتَأْذَنَ عُثْمَانُ أَرْخَيْتَ عَلَيْكَ ثِيَابَكَ، فَقَالَ: " يَا عَائِشَةُ أَلَا أَسْتَحْيِي مِنْ رَجُلٍ، وَاللهِ إِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْتَحِي (٢) مِنْهُ " (٣)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (ﷺ) was sitting in such a way that the cloth had slipped from his blessed thigh. In the meantime, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter. The Prophet (ﷺ) granted him permission and remained seated in the same state. Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter; the Prophet (ﷺ) granted him permission and remained seated in the same state. Then Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter; so the Prophet (ﷺ) covered himself with the cloth. When they had left, I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Bakr and Umar sought permission and you granted them permission and remained seated in the same state, but when Uthman sought permission, you covered yourself with the cloth?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Aisha! Should I not show modesty before the one before whom even the angels show modesty, by Allah?"
