Musnad Ahmad Hadith 23946

Abdur Rahman bin Muhairiz says that once I asked Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him), "Tell me, is it Sunnah to hang the thief's hand around his neck?" He replied, "Yes! I have seen that a thief was brought to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). The Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered that his hand be cut off, then ordered that it be hung around his neck." Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) was among the participants of the Pledge of Ridwan. Imam Ahmad's (may Allah have mercy on him) son Abdullah says, "I asked Yahya bin Ma'in, 'Have you heard any hadith from Umar bin Ali Maqdami?' He asked, 'What does he have?' I told him about the hadith of Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding hanging the thief's hand around his neck. He said, 'No, this hadith has been narrated to us by Affan.'"
