حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ، قَالَ: كَاتَبْتُ أَهْلِي عَلَى أَنْ أَغْرِسَ لَهُمْ خَمْسَ مِائَةِ فَسِيلَةٍ، فَإِذَا عَلِقَتْ فَأَنَا حُرٌّ، قَالَ: فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ قَالَ: " اغْرِسْ وَاشْتَرِطْ لَهُمْ، فَإِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَغْرِسَ فَآذِنِّي " قَالَ: فَآذَنْتُهُ، قَالَ: فَجَاءَ، فَجَعَلَ يَغْرِسُ بِيَدِهِ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً غَرَسْتُهَا بِيَدَيَّ، فَعَلِقْنَ إِلَّا الْوَاحِدَةَ (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) that I accepted a contract of manumission from my master on the condition that I would plant five hundred date palm saplings for him; when they would bear fruit, I would become free. I presented myself before the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) and mentioned this condition. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Accept this condition, and when you intend to plant the saplings, inform me." So I informed the Noble Prophet (ﷺ). The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) came and began to plant the saplings with his own hands, except for one sapling which I planted with my own hand. All the saplings bore fruit except for that one.
