حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْحَاقَ (٢) ، حَدَّثَنِي الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ صُعَيْرٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا جَهْلٍ قَالَ: حِينَ الْتَقَى، ، الْقَوْمُ: " اللهُمَّ أَقْطَعَنَا الرَّحِمَ، وَآتَانَا بِمَا لَا يُعْرَفُ فَأَحْنِهِ الْغَدَاةَ (١) ، فَكَانَ الْمُسْتَفْتِحَ " (٢)،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Jahl prayed on the day of the Battle of Uhud: "O Allah! He has severed the ties of kinship and brought to us something we do not recognize, so show mercy to us tomorrow." It was as if he was praying for victory.
