It is narrated from Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) that there was some discord among certain Ansari people, for the reconciliation of whom the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) went. When the time for prayer came, Bilal came to Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "O Abu Bakr! The time for prayer has come, but the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) is not present here. Should I give the adhan and then the iqamah, and you step forward to lead the prayer?" Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "As you wish." So Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the adhan and iqamah, and Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) stepped forward and began the prayer. Meanwhile, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) arrived. The people started clapping, and sensing this, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) began to step back. The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) signaled to him to remain in his place, but Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) moved back, and the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) stepped forward and led the prayer. After finishing the prayer, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O Abu Bakr! What prevented you from staying in your place?" He replied, "How could the son of Abu Quhafa dare to step ahead of the Noble Prophet (ﷺ)?" Then the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said to the people, "Why did you clap?" They replied, "So that we could inform Abu Bakr." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Clapping is for women, and saying 'Subhan Allah' is for men."
