حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ أَنَّهُ: سَمِعَ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ: قَامَ فِيهِمْ فَذَكَرَ لَهُمُ الْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَالْإِيمَانَ بِاللهِ مِنْ أَفْضَلِ الْأَعْمَالِ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تُكَفِّرُ عَنِّي خَطَايَايَ؟ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " نَعَمْ. إِنْ قُتِلْتَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ، وَأَنْتَ صَابِرٌ مُحْتَسِبٌ مُقْبِلٌ غَيْرُ مُدْبِرٍ ". ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " كَيْفَ قُلْتَ؟ " قَالَ: أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تُكَفِّرُ عَنِّي خَطَايَايَ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " نَعَمْ. إِنْ قُتِلْتَ وَأَنْتَ صَابِرٌ مُحْتَسِبٌ مُقْبِلٌ غَيْرُ مُدْبِرٍ إِلَّا الدَّيْنَ، فَإِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ قَالَ لِي ذَلِكَ " (١)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) stood among the companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and mentioned that striving in the path of Allah (jihad fi sabilillah) and having faith in Allah are the most virtuous of all deeds. Then a man stood up and asked the Noble Prophet (ﷺ), "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, if I am martyred in the path of Allah, will Allah, by its blessing, expiate all my sins?" The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "Yes! If you are martyred in the path of Allah in such a way that you remained steadfast with the intention of reward, advanced forward, and did not retreat, then Allah will expiate your sins." After some time had passed, the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) asked him, "What did you say?" He repeated the same question, so the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) gave the same answer, but with this exception: "Except for debt. Jibreel (peace be upon him) informed me of this in the same way."
