Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that sometimes I used to see frightening dreams which would make me ill. One day I met Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) and I mentioned this to him. He said that sometimes I also used to see such dreams which would make me ill, until I heard the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) say: Good dreams are from Allah, so when any of you sees a good dream, he should relate it only to the one whom he loves. And whoever sees a disliked dream should not mention it to anyone, but after seeing the dream, he should spit lightly three times to his left and seek refuge in Allah from its evil. In this way, that dream will not harm him.
