حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ لِيُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ، ، فَقَالَ: " صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ؛ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنًا ". قَالَ: فَقَالَ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ: هُوَ عَلَيَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ. قَالَ: " بِالْوَفَاءِ؟ " قَالَ: بِالْوَفَاءِ. قَالَ: فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّمَا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ ثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ أَوْ تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ دِرْهَمًا. Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a funeral of an Ansari was brought to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Offer the funeral prayer of your companion yourselves, for he is in debt." Upon this, Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! His debt is upon me." The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, "Completely?" He replied, "Yes, completely." Thus, the Prophet (ﷺ) led his funeral prayer, and he had a debt of eighteen or nineteen dirhams.
