Musnad Ahmad Hadith 21900

It is narrated from Abu Waqid Al-Laithi (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he set out with the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) from Makkah Mukarramah towards Hunayn. There was a berry tree of the disbelievers where they used to stop and hang their weapons, and it was called "Dhat Anwat." On the way, we passed by a lush and green garden of a great berry tree, so we said, "O Messenger of Allah! Appoint for us also a 'Dhat Anwat' just like they have." The Noble Prophet (ﷺ) said, "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, you have said just as the people of Musa (peace be upon him) said: 'Appoint for us a god just as they have gods.' And Musa (peace be upon him) said, 'You are a people who are ignorant.' Remember! You will surely follow the ways of those before you, step by step, and you will adopt every one of their habits."
