Qabeesah bin Dhu’ayb says that Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) informed the family of Zubair that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) had performed two rak’ahs (as nafl) at their place after the Asr prayer, so they also began to perform these two rak’ahs. When Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) found out, he said, “May Allah forgive Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). We know more about the Prophet (ﷺ) than Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). The actual matter is that once some Bedouins came to the Prophet (ﷺ) at noon and sat down to ask questions. The Prophet (ﷺ) kept answering them, then performed the Zuhr prayer and did not perform the two sunnah afterwards, and continued explaining issues to them until the time for Asr prayer arrived. After performing the prayer, the Prophet (ﷺ) went home. At that time, he remembered that he had not yet performed the sunnah after Zuhr, so the Prophet (ﷺ) performed those two rak’ahs after Asr. May Allah forgive Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). We know more about the Prophet (ﷺ) than Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (ﷺ) has prohibited nafl prayers after the Asr prayer.
