English translation
It is narrated from Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "Do you know the Syriac language well, for letters come to me?" I replied, "No." The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Learn it." So I learned it in only seventeen days.
