English translation

It is narrated from Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila (may Allah be pleased with him) on the authority of Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that once Jibreel (peace be upon him) appeared in the presence of the Messenger of Allah while the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was near the well of Banu Idhah, and said, "O Muhammad! Allah commands you to recite the Holy Qur'an on one mode (harf)..." Then the narrator mentioned the entire hadith, and gradually, step by step, the number increased until it reached seven.
