Musnad Ahmad Hadith 20993

It is narrated from Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man lived with his father in Harrah. Someone said to him, "My she-camel has run away. If you find her, catch her and bring her back." Coincidentally, that man found her, but her owner did not return until the she-camel became ill. His wife said to him, "Slaughter her so that we can eat her," but he did not do so until the she-camel died. His wife then said, "Skin her so that at least we can cut her meat into pieces for fat." He said, "I will first ask the Prophet (ﷺ)." He asked the Prophet (ﷺ), and the Prophet (ﷺ) inquired, "Do you have enough that you can do without this she-camel?" He replied, "No." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Then go and eat it." After some time, her owner also came and, after hearing the whole incident, said, "Why did you not slaughter her?" He replied, "I felt shy before you."
