حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ بَعْضَ أَصْحَابِنَا، يَقُولُ: عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمَدِينِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ لِي سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ: عِنْدَكَ حَدِيثٌ أَحْسَنُ مِنْ هَذَا وَأَجْوَدُ إِسْنَادًا مِنْ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: مَا هُوَ؟ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي يَزِيدَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أُمِّ أَيُّوبَ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَزَلَ عَلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ، فَذَكَرَ هَذَا حَدِيثَ الثُّومِ. قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ: نَعَمْ: شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَزَلَ عَلَى أَبِي أَيُّوبَ. فَسَكَتَ (٣)،
Translation
English translation
Ali bin Madini says that Sufyan bin Uyaynah said to me, "Did you have the previous hadith with a better chain than this?" I asked him for the hadith, so he mentioned the previous hadith with his chain. I replied in the affirmative and mentioned my chain, so he became silent.
