Musnad Ahmad Hadith 20903

It is narrated from Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man lived with his father in Harrah. Someone said to him, "My she-camel has run away. If you find it, catch it and bring it back." Coincidentally, that man found it, but its owner did not return until the she-camel became ill. His wife said to him, "Slaughter it so that we can eat it," but he did not do so until the she-camel died. His wife then said, "Skin it so that at least we can cut its meat into pieces for fat." He said, "I will first ask the Prophet (ﷺ)." He asked the Prophet (ﷺ), and the Prophet (ﷺ) inquired, "Do you have enough that you can do without this she-camel?" He replied, "No." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Then go and eat it." After some time, its owner also came, and after hearing the whole incident, he said, "Why did you not slaughter it?" He replied, "I felt shy before you."
