حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، أَخْبَرَنَا مِسْعَرٌ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ: كُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا وَرَاءَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قُلْنَا: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِأَيْدِينَا يَمِينًا، وَشِمَالًا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ يَرْمُونَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ الْخَيْلِ الشُّمْسِ، أَلَا يَسْكُنُ أَحَدُكُمْ، (١) وَيُشِيرُ بِيَدِهِ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ، ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ " (٢)، ،
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when we used to pray behind the Prophet (ﷺ), we would gesture with our hands while turning for salam to the right and left. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "What is the matter with people that they gesture with their hands like the tails of difficult horses? Can you not remain calm and gesture while keeping your hands on your thighs, and offer salam to your companion on the right and left?"
