Original Arabic
وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكَرَةَ: ذُكِرَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ خَيْرًا، فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " وَيْحَكَ، قَطَعْتَ عُنُقَ أَخِيكَ، وَاللهِ لَوْ سَمِعَهَا مَا أَفْلَحَ أَبَدًا "، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِذَا أَثْنَى أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى أَخِيهِ، (٣) فَلْيَقُلْ: وَاللهِ إِنَّ فُلَانًا، وَلَا أُزَكِّي، ، عَلَى اللهِ أَحَدًا " (١)، °
Translation
English translation
It is narrated from Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ), a man praised another. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Alas! You have broken your companion's neck." And he said, "If any of you must praise his brother, then he should say: 'I think that so-and-so appears to be such-and-such, and I do not declare anyone pure before Allah, and his true guardian is Allah; I think of him as such.'"
