Musnad Ahmad Hadith 19884

It is narrated from Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we were on a journey with the Prophet (ﷺ) when this verse was revealed: "O people! Fear your Lord, surely the earthquake of the Hour is a tremendous thing." (Here, one word was omitted by my father; according to another narration, the Prophet (ﷺ) recited these two verses in a loud voice. When the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) heard its sound in their ears, they brought their mounts closer and gathered around the Prophet (ﷺ).) The Prophet (ﷺ) said: This will be the day when Allah, the Exalted, will call out to Adam (peace be upon him) and say: O Adam! Take out the portion of Hell. He will ask: What is the portion of Hell? It will be said: Take out nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand for Hell. Hearing this, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) began to weep. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Draw near and remain steadfast on the right path. Among all the nations, you will be like a mark on a piece of cloth, but even then I hope that you will be one fourth of the people of Paradise; rather, I hope that you will be one third of the people of Paradise.
