Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Qutbah bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a governor uttered an inappropriate remark about Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Upon this, Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him, "Do you know that the Noble Prophet (ﷺ) forbade speaking ill of the dead? Then why are you saying such things about Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he has passed away?"
