حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، (١) عَنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنِي الْحَارِثُ بْنُ شُبَيْلٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ: كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يُكَلِّمُ صَاحِبَهُ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْحَاجَةِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: " {وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ} [البقرة: ٢٣٨] ، " فَأُمِرْنَا بِالسُّكُوتِ " (٢)، ،

Translation

English translation

It is narrated from Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the early blessed period of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), people used to talk about their needs during prayer, until this verse was revealed: "And stand before Allah devoutly obedient," and we were commanded to remain silent.
